“My very high energy Border Collie Mix and my Toy Poodle have taken very warmly to Grayson and Mike. As a solo dog parent with a very demanding job, it has given me such a huge sense of peace knowing my precious pups are in the most tender-loving hands when I’m gone.
Grayson and Mike have demonstrated the utmost patience and kindness with my little one, who can be stubborn to walk and was a bit shy to start. They’ve troubleshooted handling his slow pace simultaneous to the ready-to-go, bounce-off-the-walls energy of my medium sized, younger dog.
What amazed me most was how expertly they also approached my partner’s dog, who has extreme anxiety with strangers. I have such confidence in this pair of dog-loving humans that I know they’d be able to win him over too, in time!
Not only do Grayson and Mike walk my dogs with care, they also feed and provide brain puzzles such as frozen Kongs at every visit. My favourite part is the mindfully written reports I receive after each visit, which leave me grinning or laughing at the recounts of my pups’ attitudes and activities each day.
Thank you both for providing such top-notch care. It allows me to go to work each day without anxiety, but rather peace of mind and joy that my dogs get to encounter such wonderful humans.”

"We couldn’t be more happy with the care of our dogs during our recent weekend away.
As overprotective Mom’s we’ve only ever entrusted our dogs with family and friends. However after reading countless great reviews and having a successful meet and greet, we could see first hand how professional both Grayson & Michael were and how sweet they were with the pups. During our time away, we received regular updates & photos, and we could see that they were thoroughly enjoying their staycation, which helped put us at ease.
We’re really happy to have found them and have already booked with them for our next getaway.
Grayson has taken a keen interest in helping us understand and work with Archie on some reactivity issues. While still a work in progress, we’re super excited with the changes we’ve seen so far and we’re optimistic that together we’re on the path to a happy and healthier pup."
My shepsky, Molly, sometimes seems like a cat stuck in a dog’s body. She has a fierce need for independence and freedom during walks, and until we met Sunshine City Pet Care she also had a vengeance out for squirrels and rabbits. The intensity of her lunging led to a fall that shattered my ankle in three places and broke my trust in Molly. We spoke to several behaviorists before Sunshine City Pet Care, and it became clear that they could not understand Molly’s unique needs.
Meeting Sunshine City Pet Care was a breath of fresh air. Grayson and Mike understood from the moment they met her what behavior she was exhibiting. They helped me understand how to redirect her attention without force. I have a stronger bond with Molly, as well as confidence walking her again now that she doesn’t play ‘Drag the Human’.
Choosing Sunshine City Pet Care is choosing someone who will work with your dog in a way that they understand.”
Sunshine City Pet Care is made up of married duo Michael McCubbing and Grayson Diamond–along with Kitty the Dog, of course! We met in December of 2015, and quickly bonded over our shared love and respect of animals. We worked through 18 grueling months of long distance before moving in together in 2017, and then settling in Orillia in 2018. In November of 2023, shortly after adopting Kitty, we made our final move to beautiful Collingwood!
We got our start as pet care professionals on the contracting platform ‘Rover’ in autumn of 2019. Our founder, Mike, had transitioned from job to job his entire life, but struggled to find a career that sparked his passion while allowing for the flexibility he needed as someone who struggles with chronic pain.
His first client was Lily, a labrador with an endless supply of energy and affection to give. She lived close to the McCubbing’s large, wooded property where she and Mike could ramble and explore undisturbed on long walks.
The positive reviews began to roll in, word of mouth spread, and Mike’s client list grew. It didn’t take long for Mike to realize that pet care was the first job he felt real excitement for–that bringing a little sunshine to pets’ days was where his passion lay.
Soon, Mike realized it would benefit everyone to leave Rover and strike out on his own! We’ll always be grateful to Rover for our start, but wanted more control over our rates as well as insurance and bonding with clear terms and strong protection for both ourselves and our clients. In June of 2022, Sunshine City Pet Care was born!
At the same time, Grayson thought he’d found his passion in animal medicine, and was enrolled in a veterinary technician program. Although he loved the hands-on experience and found the science fascinating, Grayson found himself realizing the sterility of an animal hospital wasn’t where he felt most engaged and alive. The struggle of balancing animals’ medical needs against their clients’ financial needs would be constant, and the culture of mistrust between veterinary staff and their clients only seems to be growing.
In Spring of 2023, struggling with waning interest, growing ethical concerns, and reeling from a personal loss, Grayson left the final semester of his program. He left without a degree, but with a cat named Goose and a dog named Kitty–and he’s never looked back! Since joining Mike at Sunshine City Pet Care, Grayson’s found joy and healing in merging his medical and behavioral knowledge to help our clients give their pets the best possible care!
Together, Grayson and Mike form a compassionate, knowledgeable team ready to meet your pets’ every need!
